Where to watch the pooch, that is the question

IMG_1185With our first holiday of our open road adventure behind us, we decided to celebrate with some time apart. For the record, this was not my idea. Our daughter was heading to Toronto and needed a sitter for her pooch Beesly. Since our spoiled rotten pooch, Rigby is on the jealous side, other half thought it best if I babysat Beesly at our daughter’s apartment in North Hollywood, CA.

Hmmm. Let me think a minute. Stay at the campground and eat leftovers for a week or go into the city and eat at restaurants and go shopping. When he suggested this plan, daughter and I exchanged surprised glances. I responded with, “If you think it’s best, I’ll go.”

We were packed in minutes and headed out a day early.

IMG_1194I’ve been in North Hollywood, NoHo as the locals call it, since Saturday. We got here around noon, dropped Beesly at her apartment and went straight to Umami for lunch. If you’re a burger fan, this place is a must.

We finished stuffing ourselves and headed to downtown Glendale for some mother-daughter bonding. We love to shop together, but since I just finished getting rid of 90% of everything I owned, I’m not really in acquisition mode. She, on the other hand, is in out-with-the-old-and-in-with-the-new mode. Mom’s credit card is helpful in that mode.

IMG_1210Shopping makes you hungry so we finished off the day with a trip to Tamashii Ramen House. This place is walking distance from her apartment and, like most places in NoHo, is pooch friendly. That means Beesly joined us.

IMG_1208 Up until I experienced Tamashii Ramen, the only ramen I’d ever eaten costs a quarter and comes in packs of six. There is NO comparison. I even ate mine with chopsticks. Chopsticks could be marketed as a weight loss gizmo. They definitely slowed me down. In theory that “should” have caused me to eat less. Not so much.

Sunday was laundry and packing day for daughter. We did manage one more quick trip to Urban Outfitters. We also got in two more restaurants, Artisan Cheese Gallery in Studio City and P.F.Changs in Burbank.

Her flight to Toronto was the red-eye out of LAX. She wanted to be there by 10:30 pm Sunday. No problem, so we thought. Neither of us factored in the holiday travelers trying to get out of Dodge. The drive in to LAX was a white-knuckler with a soundtrack of Taylor Swift, One Direction, Peter Fox, JayZ  and f-bombs. I got back to her apartment at 12:30 am, walked Beesly and went to bed.

IMG_1213Today, Monday, I decided to do the Mom thing and wash her bedding and towels and give her room and bathroom a once over. In the midst of my zealous efforts, other half called. “When are you coming back?” His original idea was for me to be gone for a week. Looks like 3 days is about all he can take.

Beesly and I are heading back to Menifee in the morning. It’s nice to be missed.
