Crossing the Mojave

IMG_1244Today was desert day, the Mojave Desert. We traveled CA State Route 62 for over 100 miles.  It’s beautiful in a sure-hope-you-don’t-breakdown kind of way. Wikipedia describes it as one of California’s most desolate highways. I agree. We drove for a-g-e-s without so much as a bug splatted on the windshield. Now that’s desolate.

IMG_1239We started desert day with the “big boys” at a Pilot Truck Stop. Pilots have become our favorite place to drop big bucks on the Big Rig’s insatiable thirst for diesel. The Big Rig also needs this stuff called DEF. DEF is mostly urea which last I checked was pee.  Not sure what that’s about. It has something to do with pollution, so it must be a good thing.

Our problem is the DEF tank on the Big Rig is on the opposite side of the DEF pumps. Going against 18-wheelers at the pumps is not a good plan. Other Half solved this with a DEF container. He fills the container on the correct side of the pump, then walks it around to the DEF tank on the incorrect side of the Big Rig. It works, that’s all that matters.

IMG_1246The goal of desert day was a 200 mile trip from Menifee CA to Emerald Cove RV Resort in Earp CA. This RV Resort is located along the Colorado River. Desert day wore us out so we’ll scope everything out tomorrow. We are here for 4 days.IMG_1245Other Half agreed we would sit through a 90-minute sales pitch in exchange for 4 free nights and $200 in diesel fuel. I’m thinking the diesel alone is worth 90-minutes. We’ll see.
