So Long Utah, Hello Vegas

Hiking with wild turkeys at ZionWe spent our last day in Utah hiking with the wild turkeys. I couldn’t leave the area without one more day spent hiking at Zion National Park. Other Half humored me. We choose an intermediate trail and headed off. The turkeys joined us about halfway. The trail was actually the horse trail, which meant it was steep, sandy and dotted with horse poop.

Other Half humoring me at ZionThe sand was the biggest challenge. It was like walking through a several mile sandbox.

The Patriarchs at Zion Zion doesn’t disappoint. Everywhere you turn, the views are breathtaking. Our two weeks in Hurricane, Utah left me wanting more. I’m in awe of Mother Nature. I want to slow down and take it all in, to experience the majesty deeply. It moves me. It makes me feel omnipotent and insignificant at the same time.

Virgin River running through ZionIt also makes me realize how time keeps rolling whether we acknowledge it or not. It took billions of years to create what we casually take for granted. Not just incredible mountains and canyons but also gentle waters and rolling hills and waddling turkeys.

Taking it all inI feel like I’m waking up. It’s my goal to e-x-p-a-n-d my awareness of the world we live in. What a gift we’ve been given. I want to savor every moment.

Drive to Vegas from UtahWe left Utah Wednesday morning and headed to Las Vegas. It’s about a three hour drive, easy breezy for us. The traffic was mild and the scenery was good.

We’re staying at the Las Vegas Oasis RV Resort. This place is huge. There are over 900 sites. There’s also a pool and a small cafe. Oasis is located south of the Strip in an area that reminds you that regular people, not just high rollers and entertainers, live in Vegas too.

Friends in VegasWe have friends here, which makes Vegas much more than just the Strip for us.

Vegas has it’s own brand of beauty. It feels a bit jarring after the last few weeks engrossed in Mother Nature’s beauty, but Vegas, and the surrounding area, have much to appreciate.

We all know life gives no guarantees. I want to appreciate all that we experience – in the limited time we’re given. Today, I’m appreciating the Whirlpool repair man. Our ice maker is on the fritz. Not ideal for two people who appreciate a frequent iced beverage.
